The IAMAW Women’s Committee

Annual Coat and Accessories Drive

The Women’s Committee would like to thank everyone who donated to our annual coat and accessories drive.  Because of your generous support, we were able to donate the following items to St. Vincent DePaul of Naugatuck, CT:  Coats, Suits, Sweaters, Vest Shirts, Scarves, Gloves, Hats, and Shoes.

The Women’s Committee has been the proud sponsor of numerous other events such as cell phone collections for battered women, toiletry collections for the homeless, and food drives for families in need.  We have presented seminars on finance, domestic violence, and self-defense.  This group also provided assistance to The IAMAW campaign to preserve the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), and we will continue to make health care education a priority. Our health care initiatives have promoted awareness on breast cancer, testicular cancer, and cervical cancer.

Last year, women from all over the district were invited to a joint luncheon, which provided wonderful networking opportunities for all in attendance.  All of the women developed a greater sensitivity to the needs of their peers in other districts.

Diversity programming has always been a major focus whether it was Black History month in February, Irish American Heritage in March, or the Hispanic Heritage celebrations in the fall.  We continue to make celebrating our differences a priority.

Since culinary delights have been an important part of each celebration, there has been great demand for recipes and cooking instructions.   Thus, we created The Melting Pot: A Collection of Treasured recipes for PW Employees, Families & Friends.  This wonderful collection of family recipes is still available for purchase.

In the future, we look forward to increasing our commitment to the women of Pratt and Whitney.  By focusing on the issues that affect most women such as: finance, health care, balancing work and home, elder care, family issues, to name a few, we hope to contribute, in a positive way, to the personal growth and development of our coworkers.

We value your support immensely so, feel free to let us know how we are doing.  We want to make a difference for you.
