I.A.M.A.W. LL1746A Women's Committee’s

     3rd  Annual Irish Heritage Celebration

Irish American Heritage Celebration

March 30, 2007 marked the Third Annual Irish American Heritage Celebration for P&W Engine Center and the IAMAW LL1746A Women’s Committee.  The Women’s Committee appreciates P &W’s commitment to diversity celebrations.  For the first time, we were able to offer a full reception as we celebrated the Irish culture.  Completing the research for these celebrations provides a wonderful learning experience for each of us.  Each year, we look forward to adding a  special something extra to help you enjoy the event even more than the last year and to show you how much we appreciate your continued support of the Irish American Heritage Celebration.

The Women’s Committee is excited to be able to give our energies to events like this because it is a way for all of us to celebrate the richness of each ethnic culture. The Pratt & Whitney Community is truly a melting pot where so many different cultures are represented, and it is because of this diversity that Pratt and Whitney has developed into a premier company.

As we celebrated Irish history and culture, we hope that each one of you took the opportunity to learn something new about our Irish co-workers as well as the vast contributions that the Irish have made to the growth of America.  The more we learn about each other, the more we will appreciate each other, and the better we will work together.

Our program opened with remarks from Mary Robinson, chairperson of the Women’s Committee. Mary introduced the Committee members and the MC Tony Whalen, Vice President of the IAMAW LL 1746A.    Matt St. George who represented P & W and Tony Whelan  made brief remarks.  During the first shift, Daniel Reynolds provided accordion music, and John Haley presented a talk and slide show of Ireland.

The program for the second shift began as Mary Robinson introduced Dennis Griffin as MC for the evening.  Tony Whelan gave brief remarks representing LL 1746a.  Chelsea Donovan, violist, was accompanied by her father Dennis Donovan on guitar as they entertained the audience.  Each program ended with a sumptuous buffet of corn beef sandwiches, an Irish favorite. We thank the Pratt and Whitney Company and our Irish co-workers for their generous contributions of food and condiments. The bulletin board provided a wonderful educational display of Irish history and culture.

Overall, the Irish American Heritage Celebration was enjoyed by all and a total success.
